Angela Cater's Pet Portraits & Illustration

Welcome to my Dog Gallery
Toby
A portrait of my mother's friend's dog, a deerhound cross with a lovely nature.
Shona
Shona is my sister's Scottie dog. She was little more than a puppy when I painted this but quickly grew into a sturdy and heavy dog with the typical square shape of a Scottie. It is always a challenge to paint an entirely black animal. Sign up for my tutorials on the home page and I will show you how it is done.

Wrigley
My brother has had three Chinese Crested dogs over the years. Wrigley is the most patterned of them all. Having no fur, he needs regular bathing, moisturising and sun-block during the summer.
Jake
This spaniel portrait was commissioned by a professor I worked with when at the University as a birthday present for his wife. He was so thrilled with it that he paid me double what I had requested. Money aside, it is always a great honour and pleasure that my paintings can mean so much to someone.
Cassie
This was Cassie, my brother's second Chinese Crested. She was a Powder Puff variety, whose pedigree name was "Sapphire". Powder puffs have rather more hair than the better known hairless type of Chinese Crested, but still have problems with their skin, sunburn and the cold weather. This portrait was done in pastel on a rough board.
Rustibee
This handsome boxer dog went by the grand name of Rustibee Looking Back Marbleton Texas. He was owned by champion breeder, Mary Hambleton, who was kind enough to lend me a photo with which to produce this portrait. Boxers have always been my favourite dog. I admire their lively and mischievous nature. I have many happy memories of playing with my aunt's boxers when I was young.
A Barrel of Brandy
This is a picture that I had been dying to paint for a long time. I just lacked a suitable model! Then I spied "Moonshine Maggie" at a steam fair in Derbyshire and ran over with my camera to introduce myself to her owner. Maggie was a very obliging model once she had finished licking me to death.
